Each academic year consists of the two semesters, Autumn and Spring,
commencing on the 1-st of September and on the second Monday of February.
Every semester ends up with an examination session, which is followed
by holidays. Winter holidays last for about 2 weeks and summer vacations
are two months long. Knowledge
assessment is made in terms of 5 grades : 5 - " excellent ",
4 - " good ", 3 - " satisfactory ", 2 - " unsatisfactory",
1 - " failure ". The assessment scheme being 1 - 5, the grades
have the following "academic weights":
The
maximum grade is 5 units, the minimum required is 3 units.
If a student gets a grade below the required minimum he/she is permitted to take at least two attempts more for each subject. These requirements are sometimes relaxed for overseas students who are always welcome to apply for supplementary consultations. The Department of International Affairs and Education and the staff will be always on hand to arrange additional studies for you and to prevent you from running into difficulty. But we strongly recommend you to inform us on your problems as soon as they arise, so that our advice can be effective and will come on time. It particularly refers to communicating in Russian. Any full-time program will culminate in a Degree / Diploma project
(work) which is expected to be a qualification work in a specified
area. The graduation project/work is aimed at demonstrating the knowledge
and skills acquired by you on graduation. Finally you will have to
make a public presentation of your work facing the State Examination
Committee. It includes our leading professors and also external experts
who are authorised to entitle you with an appropriate degree or qualification.
Normally, this is a very exciting procedure, an event that you will
keep in your memory for years. 3, Lotsmanskaya Str., St.Petersburg, 190008 Russia St.Petersburg State Marine Technical University International Affairs & Education Tel +7 812 4950227, Fax +7 812 4950227 E-mail inter@smtu.ru E-mail lpbranch@smtu.ru |
