FACULTY OF MARINE ELECTRONICS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS

The Faculty of Marine Electronics and Control Systems traditionally produced professionals with career prospects in the ocean-related defence sphere. Most of the educational programmes were designed to enable graduates to cope with technologies relevant to naval systems including navigation and control. Following the conversion policy the Faculty has developed new educational programmes focused on training designers and manufacturers of underwater vessel equipment for exploration and use of ocean resources. New educational goals are reflected in new courses which provide preparation for engineers of the 21-st century capable of design, control and operation of up-todate control systems and navigation instrumentation involving robotics and artificial intelligence technologies for all type of underwater vessels.
The Faculty offers Diploma of Engineer, BSc and MSc degree courses with specialisations in different branches of marine electronics, marine navigation and control systems.
Close examination of the nominated fields reveals large areas of similarity for all courses that are built around a virtually uniform core of basic studies.
The prerequisites for any Faculty curriculum include a background of mathematics, physics and mechanics as well as electrodynamics, electronics and computer and information technologies. Further differences are revealed in a more detailed approach to the subject of study.
Diploma of Engineer course in Computer Engineering, Systems and Networks is aimed at providing qualifications for enormously varied employment. As far as computer aids are becoming increasingly essential in ever expanding domain of human activities this programme does not need special advertising. It is only worth mentioning that the curriculum being based on similar fundamentals is sufficiently enriched with appropriate subjects to give you a clear understanding of what a computer is made of, how it operates and how to use it in the most effective way.
Every Faculty programme is quite flexible and permits students to develop their individual interests.
The staff members have been for years maintaining close links with industry and due to this experience many research projects have been completed. At present new opportunities are being opened and prospective students are welcome to share them.

The Dean of the Faculty is professor Uri I. Zhukov
